Issues of Importance to County Commissioner Beverly Brown

Economic Development

Job creation is one way to encourage young people to stay in our community. The 4th district is a leader in aggressive job growth in Genesee County.  Through collaboration, innovation and implementation, we can propel the entire county to a state of economic stability.

Effectiveness and Efficiency

Continuous improvement is a hallmark of excellent organizations. Genesee County can leverage limited resources by creating effective partnerships with universities and colleges as well as implementing Lean principles and investing in technology. These strategies will help make government more efficient.

Dr. Brown initiated a Memorandum of Understanding between Genesee County and the University of Michigan Flint on Nov. 1, 2023.

Infrastructure Employment

We have an opportunity to create more pathways for Skilled Trades workers to repair and build our bridges, sewer systems, technological supports and roads. When we foster stronger relationships between our educational and employment communities, we all win.

Dr. Brown helped bring the Women In Skilled Trades (WIST) program to Genesee County, 2023.

Poverty

There are pockets of poverty all over Genesee County.  Poverty is a trigger for criminal behavior.  District 4 has approximately 16 percent of residents who live in poverty. Good paying jobs and smart educational choices can help residents become debt free and contribute to society.  Earning a decent living can foster confidence, character and pride. These virtues help influence positive mindsets to create a richer community.

Quality of Life

Quality of Life is created by an ecosystem of factors. These include work, play and mental health. Toward that end, residents in Genesee County can enjoy more than 11,000 acres of parks. These spaces must become more accessible for everyone. We can also take advantage of one of the finest Cultural Centers in the country. Commissioner Brown is committed to maintaining and promoting these features so that Genesee County residents can play as hard as they work.

Serving Seniors

Whether it involves providing transportation to medical appointments or bringing hot meals to those who are homebound, we must continue to respect and care for our seniors by ensuring that they have access to proper health care, recreational opportunities and legal services.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Society has an obligation to make sure that all citizens, including the deaf population, those who are disabled, the LGBTQ+ community and other underserved populations are seen, heard and feel welcomed as they participate in county services and government. Diversity fuels innovation. Equity promotes fairness. Inclusion supports progress.

Dr. Brown immediately began to assess the needs of the deaf community following her appointment in January, 2023.

Collaboration

Working together is paramount in advancing a vision of shared progress. One agency’s talent can make up for a gap in another agency. A collective spirit of respect and resource sharing can help guide our communities toward greater opportunities.
